Calculating thermal expansion
of materials and substances

Measurement values returned by a machine vision system will change with the variation of temperature of the inspected object, the whole plant cell or the handling system (robot).
One of the main reasons is the thermal expansion of materials depending on their individual thermal expansion coefficients.

Δl = l0 *α *Δt

Calculating thermal expansion of materials and substances

Note: Even when using the drop-down lists own values can be entered. Please use the first entry "user def."!

Coefficient of expansion:
Part length in mm:
Temperature change in Kelvin (degrees):

Calculated elongation of part:

Attention: Please note that the thermal temperature coefficient are strongly dependent on the initial temperature and can change significantly (non-linear). The used constants refer to an initial temperature of 20 degrees celcius, more than 100 Kelvin differences in temperature are not accepted. Please check material data sheets of manufacturers right values!
